Hmm, well you may both be right, as mentioned I did have it ,albeit accidentally, but Ian has the option and to my knowledge never has used it.

I think I might make a copy of my instructions from my thread and put it aside for future reference. No point reinventing the wheel.😊

No rktop an Documents Folders"eal need to do so now that many site seem to have been updated with a search such as:

Several sites seem to have been updated for macOS 15.5 Sequoia updated and even mentioned that after the sink option has been disabled to enable it again and wait while the files get put back into their original folders if such option had been chosen.

Still a little bit confusing the way things are worded on several sites including Apple's.

Anyone tried any of their suggestions to put one's Desktop and Documents Folders file contents back to where they should be for us old timers?

I still don't know why my system settings don't even show the option to enable or disable the feature as it certainly there on my wife's iMac and we are both running similar machines and the same Macos 15.5.

Maybe it's the lack of malOS consistency that is showing itself once again? 😊

Patrick, the option is under Settings>General>Storage. Been there for a long time. The "Sync" option is there, I think, for those who have at some point in the past, chosen Optimize Storage, however briefly, and forces a new sync of the items stored in the cloud and those on the Mac. Then those items can be shared across other devices through the cloud. Handy if you are a person who starts a document on an iPad, moves to a Mac and finishes on a different Mac, all shared through the cloud. But if the particular Mac has never been setup to do Optimization, or storage in the cloud, no need for a "sync" option as it has nothing to sync.
