Glad you got it sorted.
As I recall, one of the major updates turned on "Optimize..." by default. And new machines at one point came with "Optimize..." turned on, also by default. A lot of folks got caught out by that default. I think Apple has now abandoned that default, but I'm not sure as it's been a while since I got a new machine and did not use Migration Assistant immediately.
