Hi all,
Mid 2013 macbook air 6,2 with 1Tb SSD.

I've now got myself sorted out after problems with the macbook not waking from sleep and it's all back to normal. I've got this dialogue box on the screen inviting me to upgrade to Mojave. Firstly, is it simply a matter of ensuring my CCC and TM backups are up to date? (separate drives btw) or is it not that easy. I also have "instal Mac OS Mojave" in my app's folder. My internal SSD is all ready formatted to APFS so hopefully that won't make any difference to anything. I'd appreciate help and comments as to what I might encounter.

I know I've done all this sort of thing before but my memory gets worse the older I get.

You should be "safe" upgrading to Mojave. It didn't cause any issues for me. But, this might be the last OS that some of your apps will run in. If you go any higher that Mojave, you might end up paying for new versions of other software.

I've used Mojave on a number of systems - my current 27" iMac (2017) 5k 4.2 i7; MacBook Pro mid-2012; MacBook Air 2013, MacBook pro 2015; it's all good... if you're running at least 8gb of RAM.

Yes ditto to the above. With support for 32 and 64bit apps I found it to be an all round reliable, stable operating system.

If your current macOS is performing as it should you should have no problems just applying the upgrade especially if you have a bootable clone (CCC) as well as TM backup.

I always recommend people read up on changes (rather than new features) in an operating system before committing and this article is fairly good at comparing High Sierra to Mojave. https://www.macworld.co.uk/review/macos-mojave-vs-high-sierra-3678471/

Have you checked what 32bit apps you have that you really need? Mojave will support 32bit app but it is the last macOS to do so.

I have been running Mojave on a 2012 Mini for a while and I'm happy with it.
Only thing I found annoying is Apple got rid of the "Grab" app and replaced it with "Screenshot".
But if you don't use "Grab"- not an issue.

Thanks for the replies.

toMacsh, I've got a clone of Sierra which I use to run my 32 bit apps.

NSMacGuru, I'm stuck with 4Gb of ram.

Rod, It took a while but that link was interesting and bookmarked.

krs, I only use "screenshot" so no problem.

So to install Mojave, I do a CCC and TM backup and then click install and follow any prompts that come up?

Obviously 8GB of RAM would be better but if you have sufficient storage for virtual memory (10%+ of your total storage) and given you are successfully running High Sierra I think you will find Mojave will run as well if not better than HS on 4GB.
I found Mojave to be a pretty undemanding macOS.
Just as prior warning, when you launch a 32bit app in Mojave you will get a notification saying "This Application Is Not Optimised for this OS, Please Contact the Developer........" or words to that effect. It's just Apples last warning about the impending Catalina not supporting 32bit apps. You can just ignore it, the app will still run, all of mine did but you may find some of your old 32bit apps will start offering updates to 64bit equivalents.

Thanks Rod,
So am I correct that I do my clone and TM backups, press install and follow any prompts?

Yes, that's it. Do not encrypt, do not choose to store Desktop and Documents files in iCloud, the rest is up to you and expect the device to restart a few times. Sometimes it really is better to just go away an come back in an hour.

I will, but because I'm in a fight with a travel insurance company, I'll leave it until it's over and done with...
10 months so far so not much hope of it happening any time soon.

I feel for you. Fighting with any insurance company is not something I ever want to do. Been there, done that.

I escalated it yesterday so It'll be interesting to see how much longer it can be dragged out.

I'm assuming this is a "cancelled due to travel restrictions" type claim?

A touch more complicated. While we were in England we had an email from Royal Brunei, where we'd bought our two return tickets, telling us that we wouldn't be getting our return trip. We then bought two one way tickets from Etihad only to be refused at the check in queue. We then then bought two one way tickets from Air Canada who, after a false start finally got us home for $6293.50. We had a refund from RB $1218.00 and also from Etihad $2699.00. We claimed the Air Canada flight expecting to get $6293.50 minus the $1218.00 so we wouldn't be making a profit. Instead of this they deducted the $2699.00 as well and simply copy and paste part of their small print in reply without bothering to properly read my emails. I've kept my cool because losing it just gets you nowhere, but it really is frustrating.
