Hello.
I have quite old LG TV 2012 55LM6700. TV is working quite fine and I am not planning to change it ... but the issue is that I want to stream or mirror video from my Apple devices. I have MacBook Air 2021, iPhon 15 Max and iPad Air.
I understand that the best option should be HDMI ... but I don't like idea to connect via cable.
I tried a few 'mirroring' app from App Store and LG ... but none of it was reliable and convenient and user friendly and etc.
Hence, could you recommend from your experience which app would you recommend for this purpose?
Thanks in advance

Really, my best advice would be to look for a sale on a superceded Apple TV model. It will give you access to free streaming service apps and allow you to stream anything from any of your Apple devices. My son bought me one a couple of years back and it breathed new life into my old (not smart) Sony Bravia. Even without an Apple TV+ subscription you get access to free content from Apple, Photos, Music ect on your devices plus you get a smart TV with great resolution.

I have an HG TV that's just a few years newer than yours. Here are a couple of things to check out.

1. If this is an LG Smart TV, check their website. About three years ago they started updating software to give their TVs AirPlay support. Initially my 2018 model wasn't supported but it was added to the supported list shortly after release. I doubt the supported models goes as far back as 2012 but it won't cost anything to check.

2. Use an Apple TV device. This isn't free but it's cheaper than purchasing a new TV. I'd suggest using an Apple 3 model (cheaper), but if you want to stream anything directly from the Apple TV box many of the popular streaming services don't run their current software on the Apple 3.

Folks, thanks for ideas. To be honest… i didn’t consider Apple TV device simply because I am not interested in other streaming services. Maybe consider it as an option to enable streaming/connection between Apple devices and my LG TV? Likely I could use this option in case I fall with others ( I hate one more remote control LOL).
Thanks for suggestions

In Australia we have 4 major free to air broadcasters that all have free streaming channels like the ABC's iView. IView allows you to "catch up" with regular series, watch todays news at any time and more, like being able to pause, rewind or FF through the ads at any time. SBS On Demand allows me to watch the Tour de France after dinner from the previous days racing and so on.

After contacting LG support, I was informed that there is currently no streaming application available for my specific model.

As a workaround, they recommended a USB-C to HDMI adapter.

While this solution does not provide a wireless connection, it may be a viable option to consider.

The USB C to HDMI cable is an option that should work but.

Let me clarify something the LG support said. The fact that there is no streaming application for your model simply means that the TV doesn't have a means of AirPlay/streaming without using some kind of hardware USB - HDMI cable or Apple TV device).

If you chose to do so an Apple TV device should work. AirPlay 2 support is built into the Apple TV device without adding any other streaming software to the device or your TV. Everything is done by the device and included software. It does not need any software from LG.

I have apps for several streaming services (free and paid) on my Apple TV but only because I want those services. You could do what you want and add other options (or not) as you like. Here's some info on what's pre-installed in the current Apple TV device.

Do you know anyone who has an Apple TV device that you could borrow for a few minutes to test things before you buy one?

After my last post I had something of a brain fart and started chasing down an idea.

There appear to be some third-party streaming devices that support AirPlay. If that's the case there may be cheaper alternatives to the Apple TV device.

From the little bit I have checked so far some Roku devices will do this. If that's true I suspect there are others. I think there are even some that act as a hub for devices that support the HomeKit system of home automation.

I like your suggestion! There are a lot of devices on Amazon for streaming… I am even confused how they work 😩. They come with remote controls and/or services that I am not even interested in. My vision is: open iPhone or iPad, open browser, start video and mirror it on TV.
Don’t you think that devices like “HDMI 4K Wireless Display Adapter” will do it for me?

That is almost exactly how it works with an AppleTV and iPhone. Turn on TV and AppleTV, set input to TV to be AppleTV if you have multiple inputs, open phone, start video, stream to ATV. Done. No app needed on Apple TV, no controls, other than to turn things on.

Kudos. I hope that works well. I don't remember why I didn't choose that as an option.

Let us know your opinion about it. They have made several improvements since I bought out first Apple TV a few years ago.

Chromecast is a limited device that will essentially allow you to stream stuff from a Chrome browser to the device, at least this is what how it started. If it's become more of a generic streaming device, that's great.

If you want to stick with an older TV, a device like AppleTV is great since you can run a bunch of streaming apps on there and cast from the computer as well.

Newer TVs support AirPlay, so makes it easier to connect.

Folks,
I'd like to share my first experience.
I've bought "Chromecast with Google TV" device.
After that I realized than none of Apple device could stream directly to Chromecast. Well .. I installed on Chromecast app called "AirScreen". It 'emulates' AirPlay feature on Chromecast which allow to stream 'anything' from Apple devices.
Hence, now I have 2 options: 1. I could mirror my iPhone or iPad on TV screen and see on TV what I see on Apple device. 2. I start any video clip on iPhone or iPad ( I assume that most of it should work on Apple ), then mirror the device to TV and watch video on TV.
I don't have experience yet ... but first impressions are promising ..

That's a cool workaround for the limitation. Is AirScreen a paid or fee app? Do report back on what your experience is since Chromecast is a cheaper device than ATV and if this combo works, then that's a viable option for others as well.

Well … I will report back when I have more experience… but unfortunately based on user comments it looks like they want not once but monthly fee
