Trying to use my 1440p monitor that I use with my gaming PC. I am using the same DVI-HDMI adapter and cable that my PC uses and there are no issues. My MacBook however, won't go above 1080p. The only variable is a $5 eBay TB-DVI adapter I have been using on and off for the past 4 years or so which has always worked at 1080p. This is my first time trying to run this computer at 1440p. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried:

- Apple Menu
- System Preferences
- Display
- Display tab selected
- Select "Scaled"
- Then look for the resolution you desire for this monitor & select it.

Make sure you have "Extended Desktop" selected rather than "mirrored"...so you get separate resolution choices for the MacBook Pro and external monitor.

Yes can't get it to show up.

Your model MacBook Pro supports resolutions up to 2560 x 1600. You should with the correct adapters be able to run that external monitor at its native resolution. I suspect it's either the adapter or cabling that's preventing you from using that monitor with your MacBook Pro. What works for your PC may not for your Mac.

With the cable connected, try an SMC reset, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295. I had to do this a couple of times when I first connect my 2011 MBP to my TV using a non Apple Thunderbolt to HDMI cable.
