Hey

When I got my Mac, I wanted to see what the Office was like, so I installed the 30-Day-Test Drive thingy..

It was loading and it TOOK FOR EVER!

It was SO SLOW. It made my Mac slow.

It even CRASHED!

Im sure Bill Gates codes his programs with bugs.. Seriouslly!

Thats why I straight away removed it from my Mac.. and that MSN for Mac dosnt work aswell..

Why does Microsoft always cause problems?

anyone else got problems with Microsoft?

Thats why Microsoft are cheap :p

Reason for the slowness in loading is the current Office for OSX is not an Intel application and has to run in Emulation using Rosseta. When the new version is released it will be either a Universal Application that runs natively on both Power PC and Intel Macs or full Intel. That will take care of the loading speed.

I don't know. Office 2004 Mac runs almost as well on my wife's C2D iMac as it does on my G5....

1. Bill Gates probably didn't write a single line of code on Office for X.

2. Office for X is a solid application, and I'm looking forward to Office 2008.

3. Microsoft makes decent software, otherwise no-one would be using it. Their problem lies in some of their marketing goals, their need to staisfiy a HUGE customer base which evidently is overwhelming them. See Apple, they're unable to cope with their growing popularity and delay their OS and the release of the iPhone.

No ranting here.

When compared to the AppleWorks word processor, I really like MS Word. It has crashed on me, but I make a habit of "Apple+S-ing" every sentence or so. That way, if it does have a hiccup, I'm in the clear.

PS: It did not take me long to learn that saving often is important, because all computers have their little glitches, usually when doing something important.

I have never had a problem with my Office for Mac (knock on wood). Loads quickly, has crashed maybe a handful of times in 4 months and, most importantly, creates documents compatible with Windows versions. All in all, I'm very pleased with it!!

I've never had any issues with Office for Mac either. I'm actually looking forward to Office 2008 so I can finally run it natively.

I feel as though people who have bad experiences with Windows or Office often don't know what they're doing. I've never had any troubles with my XP box. Never got viruses, spyware, or any of that junk. Crashes were few and far between. After having upgraded to Vista, the only issue I face is that Vista uses more memory than XP. Not really that big of a deal since I never really run out.

Granted, a fresh Windows installation is easy pickings for people with malicious intent, especially for the inexperienced user. But with a little common sense, people wouldn't have to worry about viruses, spyware, and the like. Don't blame the operating system, blame the user

Never had issues with Office for OSX. Never. Works great. There are free alternatives out there, but if you really need compatibility with the rest of the world, Office is the way to go.

MS is a pretty easy target here, but they're not the source of the problem you have, which I suspect lies between the chair and the keyboard. If you really need help, just ask, because it's hard to know if you're interested in fixing this issue or just having a rant.

MS Office 2004 does have some lagging issues, mainly because it's running under Rosetta but also partly because Entourage links in with your iCal and Address book databases and keeps everything in Sync more or less in real time (maintaining effectively two databases).

The version of MSN Messenger that comes with the Office discs is an older one which should work but was not a universal Binary; you should download this version instead for your Intel Mac.

I never used the trial, as I bought the program when I got my Mac and my wife's Mac. It takes about 15 mins or so to install, but then should work fine.

If you can hang on, I'd wait for Office 2008 and in the meantime try Neo Office, or OpenOffice Org both of which have their own issues - maybe they borrowed some of Bill's buggy code eh?
