Running MacOS 10.13 Beta GM I noticed that I could not access my local network also known as Bonjour. Is this a known change or is there just a new way to get to it. Adding an account in Preferences does not have Bonjour as an option. The install was over a working 10.12.6 system where Messages used Bonjour all the time. Ideas?

Bonjour is gone, according to another website that I read this morning. I've not switched yet, but that's what I read.

As Jake mentioned, it seems that Apple has added another "depreciated" feature that they seem to call something when they kill them off.

But just a long-shot here, maybe give the old "Bonjour Browser.app" a try if it will still work in that latest macOS version:

Alas, I have no idea if it will actually help or provide any access etc. :\

Thanks for the tip, Patrick. Tried it on my 10.12.6 system and it calls "Messages" "iChat AV" so I suspect it will not find anything helpful in 10.13, but I'll have to try it there when I can boot to that system. It basically just lists what it sees, doesn't provide any access as far as I can tell. Interesting that it lists Apple File Sharing and Samba.

Maybe I could manage to work with macOS HS 10.13 as I never really did understand what Bonjour really was nor how it actually worked or all of what it did.

But after just checking a definition of what Bonjour is or was, Apple must have something or method to replace what was working or is that too much to expect or assume…???

That sees to be confirmed by another user:
Bonjour chat removed from Messages.app
Looks like the Bonjour chat option is no longer available in Messages.app with High Sierra. I used it quite a lot, although it had quite a few...

Yup. iChat is gone when running Bonjour Browser in 10.13. Grrr................... Was really useful on our home network. There is a third party app, Adium. I'll have to see if that still works. Will report back.

Tried the latest Adium, ver. 1.5.10.4, and it works fine and is free. Good replacement for iChat. Don't see the option for a video chat, but I only used the text chat anyway. It communicates with iChat in pre High Sierra OSs just fine.

Adium was almost the solution for me.

I have an older G5 Mac Power Mac, I have my scanner (a prosumer model, no new drivers) and MBox audio input hooked to it. When digitizing my vinyl record collection (turntable->receiver->MBox->G5(Pro Tools), I used to use a Bonjour audio chat with iChat -> Messages on a El Capitan Mac to monitor the progress and know when a side of an album was over. With High Sierra that is all broken, iChat <-> Messages don't audio chat over Bonjour any more.

I'd really like to be able to monitor the G5's audio somehow from another mac or my iPhone. When you've invested in some expensive stuff seems a waste to just dump it and replace just because you've upgraded elsewhere.

Sorry, but I'm really confused here other than to say don't update without a working OS backup that can be used, but besides that, there's no way that a G5 Power Mac can even think of running High Sierra!!!

I obviously don't understand your problem, but maybe someone else can help you.

BTW: The previous posts were from about eight months ago.
