iMac, mid2010, running Mavericks, 4GB memory, AtI Radeon Graphics.

Messages bounces once, but won't open, and suddenly I can't take screen shots either; neither command -shift-4 nor command-shift-3 works. Just discovered left shift doesn't work with letter "t" , but right shift key does. Right shift key won't take screen shot either.

Any suggestions before I trek 2 hours to nearest Apple Store?

I didn't spill anything, and I don't have another keyboard. Since the shift plus t only works with the right hand shift key, that could be it. But could that affect Messages? The message icon bounces, it just doesn't ever open the program.

Thank you for your time and reponse. :)

After it stops bouncing is Messages shown on the Menu bar or does it still have your previously opened app there?

Messages just bounces gently once, doesn't open, and nothing else happens at all. Any other open apps aren't affected. Curious.
