Hi, everybody. I doubt anybody can help me but I don't know where else to turn.

I bought this MBP about 18 months ago and I've had nothing but problems with it, right out of the box. I've brought it in to the service desk at the Apple store many times, they've changed the logic board, operating memory, hard drive and God only knows what else, I can't remember.

Anyway, the whole time I've had this thing, I've been experiencing freezing problems, that dreaded beach ball, almost every time I go to use a program. I'm not a heavy user at all, I only go on the internet, Word, Excel or iTunes, that's it.

I can't backup the computer, can't boot into safe mode, can't empty the trash, can't update my iPhone, can't use the Optical drive (It's not even recognized) and the mail client won't hold my password.

Other than that, I'm golden.

I got a hold of someone in Customer Care yesterday and after I explained everything, he says to me "I'll make an exception for you, you can bring it in for service at no charge, even though it's out of warranty."

This ticks me off and I told him that. I spent 2,000 on a laptop so i wouldn't have problems, I've had nothing but problems from the get go and now you're doing me a favor by not charging me to repair it?

Am I out of line here, maybe it's me, how would you guys feel it it was you?

I got the guy's name and number but I feel like dropping this thing off at an office of Apple's and telling them to keep it.

Thanks for listening.

That was very kind of Apple

to make that offer, I would certainly take them up on it. I understand being frustrated, I certainly have been with another computer manufacturer. However, a lemon can happen in anyone's life and it seems as though Apple is bending over backwards to help you.

I would accept his offer after all you are 6 months out of warranty another reason I buy Apple Care so that for 3 years I can at least count on it getting fixed should something go wrong. Its electronics they all fail it is just a matter of when.

To be honest, you are lucky they are repairing it free of charge out of warranty. It's not exactly considered a "lemon" until the SAME PROBLEM consists at least 3 times in the first year. I had a Sony laptop that was supposedly top of the line that turned out to be a lemon, as said above there will always be one somewhere down the line. It doesn't seem like they have ever denied you service, so take them up on the offer to get it fixed!

I appreciate your opinions.

I'm obviously in the minority in thinking that when you pay top dollar for something, you should get what you pay for.

I don't mean that sarcastically, by the way, just the way I feel.

Thanks again.

We all "feel" that way with our expensive tools and toys - including me.

Unfortunately, it's still a piece of electronics. In over 40 yrs of purchasing this stuff, I've never seen a single manufacturer be able to put out this sort of thing and not get some 1 star reviews because someone is going to get stuck with that percentage of that manufacturers units that just didn't work. It's the way it is. We all still get teed off when it happens to "us" though.

What you're experiencing right now is one of the things that I've been amazed about with Apple. We have just too many posts to count where members have posted about Apple going above the call of what's mandated by law - particularly with "out of warranty" items, that I've never seen Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba or anyone else I can name doing. If it was one of theirs, you would be paying them to fix it, or chunking it and going out to buy another one. A lot of companies just flat out won't even talk to you once the warranty is up. I can tell you for sure, if this was a Samdung, they'd be saying so sorry, not our problem - that's "if" you could even get them on the phone.

While every thing you've mentioned that's currently wrong sounds like they could all be software issues - when you take it in, I'd tell them and have them look up the records of all the things that have happened with that machine since you've had it - calmly - take a deep breath (or ten) before you walk in the store - and tell them you'd rather have it replaced than to have it fixed. See what happens from there.
