On the left side of the case where the second most front screw is, i can press in where the screw is and it depresses quite a bit to the point that i am unsure that the screw is actually connected to anything, can someone verify this (with the comp open in front of you look on the left side of the case at the second screw from the front)

We've had a couple of discussions on this particular issue.

So far we've come up with two theories based on information straight from Apple. The first is that they're simply decorative. However, after a bit more investigation, it looks as though those screws attach to the wristpad. The reason why it seems so loose is because the wristpad is plastic, so there is a bit of a give. It's recommended that you not tighten them as you'll strip the plastic.

The screws are absolutely not for show. I have seen a disassembled macbook, and there are small plastic tabs on the wristpad/keyboard cover that they screw into. If you tighten them, the plastic may break or strip. A little give is fine, but these screws are absolutely not just for cosmetic reasons.
