Hi guys -

The guy I bought my G4 from burned a dmg file of the Leopard disc on the hard drive. I want to make my own back-up disc so I can reinstall it. How do I do it? There's a program called Toast installed already but i can't figure out how to burn this and make it bootable.

Thanks in advance.

You need to use disk Utility, and you will need a double layered disk I think

open up disk utility select the DMG you want to convert from the side (drag it there it its not there) and select convert from the toolbar. from the window that pops up choose CD/DVD master for the image format and choose save. There should then be a file (whereever you saved it) with the extension .cdr. simply change that extension to .iso and burn it to a disc.

Think you will need to check your burner is a Dual Layer (DL) and that you have DL media. Normally DL is 8.5GB capacity and DVD's 4.7GB. From memory Leopard goes around 7GB.

Thanks for responding everyone. Yes its a DL burner. I think it's a Pioneer DVR-109 to be exact. So if I follow these instructions, the disc should be bootable?

The G4 didn't come with Leopard, so we're talking about pirated software - discussion of which is prohibited here.
