Is there a way to block spam . Am using Hotmail and Yosemite mail.

Hotmail is one of the better Mail ISP's when it comes to filtering out spam. Isn't spam mail being filtered out by Hotmail before it downloads to your inbox? Of course nothing is 100% spam proof.
