macOS Sierra 10.12 > MAIL 10.3

Auto Fill of Previous Recipients > I know how to go to Window > Previous Recipients > highlight one, or more and select "Remove From List".

BUT, the removed email addresses are still there when I start a new email.

Could it be that Mail is using my Contacts list so even if I remove one it still pulls it from the Contacts?

If the Previous Recipients that were removed via the Mail app are also listed in your Contacts, then yes, they will show up. You need to remove any recipient you don't want from both Mail and your Contacts.

@Barrygou

Admin chscag is absolutely right, as you'd expect:)

But it can be an inconvenience removing a contact just because you don't want his/her email address to keep popping up as an option when composing an email. You may wish to retain the contact on your terms, as it were.

The workaround is to find the contact and copy the email address to the Notes section; then delete the email from its usual place within Contacts.

That way, when Mail searches for an email address it won't find one, but you have a copy for future reference.

Ian - great workaround! The emails I wanted to remove from the "previous" drop down are ones that I don't use very often anyway. So moving them to the Note section in Contacts is perfect. Thanks!

Good info as usual from Mac-Forums.
