Or, get the Magic Trackpad, it can be used while charging.

Or just get a Logitech wireless mouse and most models batteries last two to three or more years on a single set and provide days of warnings when they are getting low.

PS: just out of curiosity, how long does an Apple Magic Mouse keep working after it provides its 2% warning before it dies completely?

You've mentioned that a few times in this thread alone. Why not let the OP decide?

It gets old very fast.

I usually get a ‘battery charge low’ reminder which is good for the rest of the day at least. When it says ‘…very low’, it’s then I need to start worrying if I haven't charged it.

Take a look HERE - there are bunches of 'charging docs, etc' listed on Amazon to solve this issue of a bottom port on a Magic Mouse - many seem NOT needed if one wants to tolerate Apple's design preferences - but just wondering if Apple is considering Qi wireless charging as an option? Love the option on my iPhone but would require a major re-design I assume - with the widget I described previously my wife has adjusted and usually keeps her mouse charged (saves me from bringing out my 'spare' or the 'corded' mouse to save her! :)) Dave

I'm sorry it happens at the most inopportune times for your use. But, it's not really the tools fault, is it?

Or, get the Magic Trackpad, it can be used while charging.
The tool's fault? Of course not. It's the fault of the designer who thought a charge reminder at 2% instead of 5, 10 or 20 was a good option.

Thanks for confirming that for us.

I think it would be nice if the warning came a little earlier. The Magic Mouse is pretty thrifty so the notice doesn't need to appear at 20% but a notice at 5% would probably give most users plenty of time to get at least enough charge to finish the day.

Of course Apple could solve this by putting the charging port in a location that allows the mouse to be used while charging.

I have had the mouse run down on me a few times recently. It's not a big issue since I'm retired and even with fairly heavy use I can go about a month between full charges. I might try the following just to see if I find it a PITA.

Set a reminder on your phone that reminds you to plug the mouse in at the end of the day. A monthly reminder is probably sufficient since many users can go about two months without needing a recharge. There are several ways the reminder can be set to essentially nag you if necessary.

I thought about setting a separate reminder to partially charge during a break such as lunch hour but that seems redundant if you have a consistent charging schedule.
Indeed just reminding myself to plug it in when I hop in the shower or make myself something to eat would solve much. And placing the charge port where you could still use it would be a game changer. Interesting how so many poor design ideas get green lit.

I don't often think of plugging the mouse in until it's close to the end of its battery life. I'm hoping that setting a monthly or weekly reminder will get me in the habit of preventing this problem I already have a couple of other reminders set for monthly household tasks and that works pretty well so this should too.

Thanks for that link. There are a couple of chargers there that look interesting. I have several chargers but none charge the mouse.
