Macintosh HD alias?

Intel iMac, 2.4 GHz, C2D, 4 GB RAM, OS X 10.6.4
I am using Snow Leopard. A few weeks ago I was restarting my Mac and after the reboot I had an icon on the desktop called "Macintosh HD Alias." I did a google search to see if I could find a solution to removing this icon. I would like to hear from one of the computer gurus on how to deal with this icon.

Its only a Alias, so all you need to do is drag it to the trash and drop it in there. Done and done :)
