macbook pro freeze

my screen goes blank, system freezes, have to power down and restart. happens often

2023-14" M3max MBPro, 64GB/1TB, iPhone 16 Pro Max, Watch Ultra & S10
Need more information. What model/year of macbook pro? What version of OS X? Have there been any recent upgrades to the MB Pro or OS X? Any possible damage? The blank screen - is it black or grey or have any color to it? I assume it corresponds to the locking up too?

Will it restart and run for awhile? Any "beachballs"??

Answers would help.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010),Yosemite 10.10.2, samsung SSD 500gb. 8 gb memory. screen is white or grey. not able to restart. must power down and restart. it was doing this before i installed my SSD as well. no beachballs

Does it work properly if you can boot up using Safe Boot Mode?

Press and hold the shift key when you hear the boot chime and login etc… and see.

have never used save mode. happens randomly and causes me to loose recent work I have done such as on a spreadsheet. will try save mode.
