It will have the boot up sound but it will not turn on the screen. I have tried restarting it in Safe mode or whatever and have system restored it but no luck. The screen still does not work. I found a hack on youtube where if I overheat the Mac then it tricks the graphics card into working again, and I have found that it does turn on my screen for it to work. Very temporarily though, and it does not last long. I am thinking this is a graphics card issue or something, I do not know and really have no clue how to fix this problem. If anyone could help you would save me a lot of money, thank you so much

Do ypuj have an external monitor that you could connect to the Mac? If the external monitor works properly and the built-in screen doesn't that might suggest that the graphics card is working but one of the cables or built-in screen isn't.

That fact, coupled with the fact that it works briefly when the machine gets hot, suggests to me that there might be a graphics card issue. Perhaps other members will have more helpful information.

Definitely a graphics card issue. Since that machine is going on 8 years old, I suspect you probably do not want to spend a lot of money on it for repairs. You can do some googling to find out how others have dealt with it, but it probably needs a new logic board, and that means $$.

Hi, thank you so much. Do you know if I have to replace the graphics card as well or just the Logic board?

If I'm not mistaken the graphics chip on that Mac is soldered onto the logic board. Replacing the logic board also replaces the graphics chip.

That's correct, the entire logic board would have to be replaced as the graphics chipset is surface mounted.

Don't bother paying to have the GPU reflowed, the fix will likely only be temporary. Also used logic boards may have or develop the same issue. Here in the UK you can get the GPU replaced, but still expensive. GPU failure on these were a known issue.
