- ... not exactly an improvement, but I got her an Apple Remote Control - just because. Got it for a couple bucks anyway, so I figured, what the heck. :)
...
So happy with this vintage piece of engineering.


If you have some young grandchildren, you can have a lot of fun with that Mac and the Apple remote control by keeping the remote in your pocket and pretending you can control your Mac completely with your voice, but actually using the remote control.
They will be amazed...

One of the handiest little apps that was provided with older versions of macOS was "Front Row" which was controlled by the Apple remote.

I still have my old Apple remote but "Front Row" was discontinued by Apple long ago. There used to be a hack that enabled it to work with newer versions of macOS but that too was killed by Apple.

Gee... I had forgotten about "Front Row" ...

It seems a pity that Apple kills off so much of their good old stuff... ?
