To repair disk permissions, open disk utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app), click on your HD and choose "Repair Disk Permissions". You can save yourself sometime by verifying first - if no repairs are needed, don't do it.

Here is some more info.

If you want leopard, it looks like you will have to upgrade to a newer machine.

If you cant afford that, Panther will have to do for now.

You could also go with Tiger. See the system requirements here.

How you doing Philly after Repair Permissions?. Stay with leopard if you are happy with it and the speed of your machine as it exceeds minimum requirements for Leopard.

Leopard might not, but Tiger would run awesome on the machine.

If it was a notebook, I could live with Leopard, since I attribute notebooks for lighter work. But since this is a full fledged desktop, though old, you would want to extract every bit of it.

Go to 10.4.

Laptops are more than capable, in many respects, of doing what a desktop can. I do everything from light browsing to compiling code and a lot in between on my MB and it gets through pretty well.

Just a quick note to sort of back what Baggss said. My iBook though is a 1.33Ghz and I have 1GB RAM installed. Tiger was a bit zippier but for even more serious use than just Web Surfing and Email the machine is more than fast enough. I often do some smaller Photoshop projects and even some video work and it really never is that slow, but it lags a bit if a lot is going on but nothing I can't deal with. Not like Vista on similar powered hardware with the same amount of RAM.

@vansmith ..Yes exactly. Maybe its just me. But I still dont feel I've ever done serious work on a Notebook. Thats the reason I got a notebook Mac. It makes it less 'serious' and more enjoyable.

Computer is running very very nice after I wiped hard drive, reinstalled Leopard, and repaired permissions. My computer is running very smooth and I am loving Leopard. Thanks for the help everyone!
