mac Problem - Stuck on Updater

Hello! All!
When i go to updated my macbook Laptop / Mac OS X 10.5.8 (13'' Aluminium 2.4 [4 gB ram])
This is the following steps... -->
I Clicked to (software update) --> The window opened and i been waiting to appear the items to install..---> The items appeared and i clicked (Install Items) anddddd....my macbook stucked..i been waiting for 15 minutes...but nothing.. i clicked force Quit and the window closed...-->then i opened again the Software Update....and didn't Opened. :/
Then i gone to restart the macbook.. i clicked the restart, and macbook didn't responsed to anything.. :/ And Finally i closed macbook from the {Open Button} ....If anyone Knows Anything about that problem please Tell me What to do. :/

Rather than do it that way, go directly to the Apple web site and download OS X.5.8 Combo Updater from there. Below is the link and it is 759MB. After download is completed disconnect all peripherals, other than KB and mouse if in use, and particualrly antivirus software if installed.

Go to Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions. Go to Download in the Home folder and drag the update to the desktop, double click and let it run. Restart can take up to five minutes with several sets of chimes. just let it be,

After up[date, run Repair Permissions again and re-connect anything you removed.

As harry said but the reason to manually dl the file is something that big if it gets to 758mb and something happens you have to dl it all again. This way you have the file always now. I even put the .dmg updates in a separate folder so i always have them JUST IN CASE.
And there is always problems doing the big updates through the System Updater :)
