I've been trying to install apps onto my Macbook Pro and it will not let me. Each time it says I need to update my software, for example, Garage Band says I need version 10.9.0. My computer says it has 10.7.5. So I do a search for software updates and it says none are available. What's going on here and what do I do to solve this and download apps again, thanks!

You need to upgrade the operating system through the App Store. The only available free version is now Yosemite. Upgrades require an Apple ID to download Yosemite, which is over 5GB.
