Well then, thats one back for you. Still a bloody good idea though.
You mean I have all the points right? Right? :p

It's a fantastic idea since you can now kill individual tabs instead of the whole browser (hint hint Mozilla). On that we can agree. Add to that Safari's considerable advantage in terms of power usage and you almost have a browser that I'd consider using.

Installed Mavericks on both my iMac and on my MacBook Pro. Not sure if it is matter of both computers having to do a new indexing from the start, but both systems are running a little slow. And iTunes is having a heck of a time remaining stable, (having issues connecting and updating apps from the App Store). Had to force quit itunes in order to access other programs on my desktop.

Has anyone else noticed these issues?

No problems with iTunes, but seems a bit slow at boot-up -- not slow(er) in other areas.

Otherwise, the upgrade went surprisingly smoothly; better than the upgrade from Lion to Mt. Lion.

OS X Mavericks tips and tricks: Here's what your Mac can do now - Pocket-lint

Turning off your Mac quickly

Tap the power button on a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro now puts the Mac into Sleep mode. Holding it down for 2 seconds or pressing Control + the power button brings up the standard power dialogue box offering you the chance to Restart, Sleep, Cancel, or Shut Down. Holding it down for around 10 seconds does a force restart.

Been used to tapping the button to turn off. Now got to hold it or use control key.

Following up on my last bug report, what I'd thought was a bug is not a bug. After a little experimenting, I learned that Finder adds the "All Tags..." item to the Sidebar if the number of tags significantly exceeds the first screen length of the Finder window and the scroll bars appear. (Deleting the number of tags it takes to return the Finder window to a single screen without scroll bars -- plus a few more tag deletions -- seems to get rid of the "All Tags..." item again.) More details of this discovery at Finder tags: "All Tags..." missing from Sidebar - MacRumors Forums

My comment was supposed to appear here:

In case anyone else runs into it. Just plugged in my headphones for first time after upgrade. Would not detect the headphones. SMC Reset took care of it.

I downloaded Mavericks overnight OK on our 'super fast' 1/2 meg connection :Grimmace:

I'm not installing it straight away on either our MBP or iMac so I have tried making a bootable USB drive. First I tried the method using the long entry in Terminal. It gave the normal warning about using 'sudo' and asked for a password. When I tried to type in the password it won't let me. Nothing appears.

So I backed out of that and tried the second method. The USB drive formatted OK but when I try to do the last step of 'Restore' it lets me put the system password in and then tells me the 'Resource is busy' and it stays busy. As soon as I start to type in the password the spinning catherine wheel of death appears, but I can't find out what the 'Resource' is doing???

Any ideas anyone please?

Your password is not going to be shown when typing it in terminal - normal - that prevents anyone being able to see your password - just type it and press enter.

What "second" method?
Resource busy - did you try re-booting the machine?

Just download Lion Diskmaker.

The second method on this thread that was posted on page 1 of this thread.

What threw me was that the cursor didn't move when I was in Terminal and tried to type the password in. I have just tried it again and it is now copying the installer files to the USB drive.

Now's to decide on a clean instal or update?? Decisions, decisions ;)

So a very big thank you for your help !!

I almost forgot. At the moment my backups are done to CCC and if I remember reading correctly it isn't supported on 10.9? Would it be easier/necessary to use TimeMachine instead?

Noticed a few people reporting it seemed to slow things down, or beachball more often. In my case everything seems much faster, and all of the lag I was experiencing in Mountain Lion appears to be gone. I did an upgrade, not a clean install.

I'm running a 2009 Macbook Pro w/ the 3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo and 8gb's of ram.

Thanks for that...it certainly helps to present a more balanced view of the product.

Many times folks who are dissatisfied are more likely to post their thoughts than folks who are satisfied. This goes for any sort of product...vacuum cleaners, big screen TV's, tuna fish, house paint...or new computer OS releases!;)

I agree with Miles. It's faster here overall than Lion and Mountain lion on the same system.

I am also getting a bigger HDD so it will definitely be a clean instal for me, but it also means that if anything does go toes up it's just the case of putting the old disk back in and I still have a working system.

It will be interesting to see what the speed difference is because this MBP 13 with a 2.4 gig duel with 4 gig of memory has been quite slow to boot.

I had a thought earlier, fairly rare for me :\

Now that I have my USB key with the Mavericks loaded would it be possible for me to also upgrade my neighbours French MacBook with it? Is it possible to select the language or is it a separate download?

If it is possible it would save another 8 hour or so download?

... Activity Monitor now divides each page/tab into its own Safari Web Content so you can actually see which page is giving you the leaks.
Nice. Could you explain how to see this in activity monitor? I don't see individual safari tabs/pages being referenced. Thanks!

Each "Safari Web Content" process is linked to a page. However, you don't get much info beyond that unless Safari has a built in task manager a la Chrome. Knowing which process therefore is tied to which tab is a bit of a guessing game.

Normally I would say this was a "no no"...but since Mavericks is/was free...it should be ok.

As far as the language. This is something that is selected at the beginning of the install process. Just follow the onscreen instructions/prompts.
