The Virus myth is sort of interesting.

While it is technically possible to get a virus on a Mac, there are no actual viruses out there that will impact OSX. The Myth is that they can't get viruses, the truth is that all of the existing ones won't do anything to them. There were 2 "proof of concepts" done in recent years, but Apple has patched those vulnerabilities since

So while it IS possible, it has yet to happen.

leaving baggage behind(windows)

If I could run a few games without having to run windows at ALL that would be my preferance, as I want to learn osx and be done with xp/vista.

kinda of a newb question but does parallels and /or boot camp work in the background so to speak when you are running windows programs or do you have to switch to a windows desktop and THEN run your windows program?
This is where I am confused??

As far as games are concerned, I will keep my pc for the games I have for xp and have failed to master yet! My Daughters only care about garageband and Photo booth!!!!:bomb:

With Bootcamp you boot completely into the Windows environment, no Mac OS available. You can not switch between the 2 without rebooting the machine

With Parells it runs in a Window as I understand it. You can switch back and forth without a restart. I could be wrong though as I have never used it.

I tried this one myself and found out that it is NOT TRUE..

If you plant an apple and wait three months it will not grow into a new Macbook Pro.

True, however I prefer to have a life instead of a virtual one :)

Hahaha...No argument here!

However, there are times when I do enjoy spending a weekend or two lost in the newest state of the art video game.

Current Macs and current Windows machines opposed to older Macs and Windows machines.
Yes, it was true in the past that Macs were the better machine for design. They had advanced color rendering, graphics hardware was better, the machines overall hardware was faster, and the design software used was simply not as available for Windows systems of the past.
This is where the myth comes in. People still believe those points to be true. The fact is, Windows machines have since caught up and are just as effective in those areas.

I'm not sure I agree that Windows Vista is just as suited for design as OS X. Look at fonts for example: Linotype Font Explorer is beta and won't work at all with Vista. ATM sucks and again isn't Vista friendly. And productivity wise, it would take someone longer to produce and output a job on PC because it's so clunky in comparison. Now I use Vista every night and I sure as anything would hate to do anything professional on it, design wise.

Even if XP and Vista run all the software you need well, it's the general user experience that matters.

I just find that Windows is badly organised from the ground up. The filesystem layout is poor, the registry is a bad idea (text files can be edited on another machine and copied across, try that with the registry), system tray gets cluttered.

Once you have a Linux system up and running well it just works and you don't get many problems. Mac OS has been the same, but you don't have to spend the time getting it running as Apple have done this for you.

With Windows you have to spend time cleaning up after it and trying to keep it running lean and mean. Some people swear by the 6-month re-install cycle of re-installing Windows to get it to run fast again.

I think anyone who thinks Windows is elegant should look at this URL:

You can see why Linux and Unix systems often make better webservers
