My 1st MaC

Yep. I had to say it!!

This will be my 1st MAC (Mac mInI) and the rep at my local Comp says mine should be in on 1/21/05 w/ the 512 ram upgrade

Oh the one I am getting is the:

Specifications
1.25GHz PowerPC G4
256MB DDR333 SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9200 with 32MB DDR video memory
40GB Ultra ATA hard drive
Combo drive
DVI or VGA video output
AirPort Extreme

but the ram is upgraded to 512.

Keep in mind guys if you get the Mac Mini it only has 1 slot for ram is if 256 is not what you want, u better the the 512 or 1 gig at the time of sale. But I dunno if I pay $400+ dollars for 1 gig stick.

At the moment i am running a amd 2200+ 1.8ghz with 512 mbs of ram. I would like to know if a 1.2ghz mini mac with 256mb ram will run faster than this as i have been told that OS X is alot faster than windows. Also would i be able ot plug in my normal TFT monitor into this machine? I am really thinking about getting one of these. I have always wanted to try an apple out and now i have the chance.

What do you plan on doing with it? Yes, you can use your current monitor. You will want more than the stock 256mb of ram, otherwise OS X might be a little sluggish.

No, the 1.25Ghz G4 will not have as much processing power as the 1.8Ghz Athlon XP. In your day to day operations, you most likely will be unable to tell the difference.

I am gonig to keep my old pc for games and things like that as i have 256 mb graphics card. but i have always wanted ot try out apple MACS and now i have the chance to as i can afford it.

Yea me to. I know theres that software that I have on PC which Mac does not have avaliable. But I will have both units for the best of both worlds when needed.

Well, I have a G4 iBook 1.2Ghz, 768MB DDR RAM, Radeon 9200 32MB and it runs nearly everything (including games) at the same speed as my Athlon XP 2400+, 512MB PC2700 DDR RAM, GeForce FX5200 128MB Windows PC.

I have to say the stock FX5200 sucks, but the ultra editions ok (probably equivalent to a ati 9800 stock)

The 9200 is a very good graphics card for its price its also very cool running which is probly why apple chose it but gameswise it will play anything out today with vertex shading and antialiasing off pretty well.

I've installed 9200 SE cards in all my PC's purely because they handle almost everything I need (the PC's only have AGPx4 so it is a waste of time going for any higher cards) and they don't require cooling fans so run a lot quieter.

Trust me, when you have a room full of PC's (and apple gear) saving even one fan per machine will improve the noise pollution!
