I started my foray into the world of Mac's with the Mac Mini..a 2006 1.8GHz machine to be exact and since I already had all of the other components this was a great choice for me to use alongside my Linux PC until I got used to OS X. Now in comparison to my Linux PC, the Mac Mini was lacking and thus I upgraded to a quad core iMac..but today's Mac Mini rivals the lower end iMac's in capabilities..so it's not a bad deal at all..
My son bought the latest Mac mini with the i7 chip and the dedicated graphics card. He already had a mouse and keyboard and the HDMI port allowed him to use his HD TV in his bedroom as a huge 32" monitor! It's the least expensive way to get a Mac with a dedicated graphics card and takes up very little space, important when using a computer in a crowded bedroom.
