Curious, what's over the number 4 key? My keyboard has a $ there.

So has mine and I'm in the UK too, as you know.

In fact, on my KB, Shift + 3 is #. And Option + 3 is £. Shift + 4 is $.

That's consistent, Ian. On my keyboard, the label above the 3 is the #, and shift-3 is # but Option-3 is £. My wife buys stuff for her business in £ all the time, so the key gets use a lot.

@exgarymac
Thank you Patrick I am learning all the time.The keyboard here in the UK has shift 3 as £.

Next problem.......After receiving an email, if I then forward that mail elsewhere the original is lost from my inbox but has gone to the SENT file attached to the message sending it to a third party. Thus very difficult to trace later. Is there a setting to leave forwarded messages in the inbox for later reference?
Richard

What characters you get is going to depend on what keyboard toy have and the language layout you're using.

As for any forwarded Mail email, at least in Mavericks old "classic" list view if it's stll available, the original should remain in you In mailbox and show a right-pointing arrow, ie:

My 3 key is marked 3 and £.
3+shift gives £ but just found that 3+alt gives hash.
Another learning fact - thanks.

Enable showing both the menu "Character Viewer" and the "Keyboard Viewer" and have a look and try pressing your option key for many other "hidden" characters.

You might be surprised as to all the character choices you have available and learn even more. :Smirk:
