Mac Mail Attachments as Icon NOT Embedded

When I open incoming mail using the standard Mac Mail all my mail attachments come in with the full text or photo embedded.
I'd far prefer all my attachments to come in as icons, whether they're photos or documents.
I've looked this up and put this string into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes

but-- it doesn't make any difference. All my attachments still come in embedded. Just wondering if there's anything else I can try. I was also wondering why the Terminal string didn't work. Anything special I need to do with that?

I just posted this same issue on the Forums, except you said it better. Hopefully someone will answer and solve our problem. Boy do I miss Outlook!
