I have an old iMac G4 and I would love to use it to play media. The speakers are great and the screen is a good size. However the internal DVD drive cuts out with an error anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes into a DVD. I tried to connect my USB SuperDrive and it wouldn't even let me put the DVD the whole way in. I'm currently on OS 10.4 and the Wifi won't connect to my wireless router...

Here are my questions. If I upgraded to 10.6 and bought Snow Leopard would that allow me to upgrade further/would it find the external Superdrive? Can the G4 even upgrade to Snow Leopard/is it worth it to buy 10.6? If I upgrade would it even see the external Superdrive? Is it not even worth the effort and should I scrap this thing for parts?

Do you have an Airport card installed in your G4 iMac? They were optional.

Purely your call…depends on what you use it for.:) But many folks would probably say yes…not worth the effort. Unless the problem is something simple like a software or OS issue.
