I'm breaking in a new manager, and he's doing okay so far. (He now has a Mac and an iPhone, so I figure he'll do fine in the long run. ^_^) It was a little rough at first, but a bit of strategic "informing" (some might call it bragging), delivering on promises, and helping him win has gone a long way. As with you, I love doing new things, but I'm not about to take something destined to fail.

Good for you MO. It sounds like you are on the path to success with this new manager. As you correctly point out, helping your manager succeed helps everyone. Once he starts to see you as an ally, all is well. Mine unfortunately views me as a challenge, which makes this rough.

Hi Netty! Good to see you!!!!!! ^_^

Too bad about Macky. I don't know what's wrong with it. What you might do is Google the problem and really see what you can find. Personally it sounds as if it could be something corrupted in the OS or in an application.

Also, open a new thread in the OS X - Operating System forum:

http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25

Someone might know of a utility that can fix the kind of problem that Macky is having. In fact, you might want to boot your machine with your installation disc, holding down the C key, and run Disk Utility. Verify the disk and verify permissions. That's a starting point for you.

Especially while your machine is having trouble, be sure you back up your files!!!!!!!! You'd do well to back them up before running Disk Utility, and also any time you add files to your computer that you don't want to lose.

Good luck!

I'll add to this theme. I have just passed the 26 year mark with my company. If you had told me when I joined that I would still be here 26 years later I would have laughed at you. Funny how life turns out. Heck I have been living in the same house for 19 years now as well.

On paper this sounds REALLY staid and boring! Of course that ignores the half dozen or so times I have nearly changed jobs or nearly moved. I have been very close several times, but something has always taken it off the table. Perhaps it is meant to be.

I no sooner completed this comment about the above post ignoring the half dozen or so times that I have nearly changed jobs than I was contacted just yesterday by a company I interviewed with in October. They have had a reorganization and are now very interested in extending me a new offer in the very near fugure (the last effort had failed at the Ts and Cs stage - they did extend an offer, but we could not come to agreement on the details).

This is looking encouraging! I have an "in person" interview with the new hiring manager next week. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

W00t!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! Now for a lifetime of fun and pleasure. Here's the January 1 entry from the alt.angst calendar to put you in the right spirit:

"Son, I just want you to know: life is a black sucking vortex of anguish and despair, filled with brief moments of false hope and empty joy all the while dragging you inevitably closer to final, absolute and eternal death."

"Thanks, Dad..."
If you know how to laugh in life, you'll do fine. ;D

I'm just finished my last final. I should have straight A's. You can put a fork in this semester, it's done.

Hey everyone, I just got home from a Christmas party. I decided to leave really early since I just didn't feel like being out. I hope everyone is having a good start to the weekend!

Well I just got home to my parents' house. It took me a bit to pack everything up to bring home. I had to bring home my entire sound system since they are replacing the carpet in my apartment over break. I can't really complain now, I'm blaring some music in my parents' house through my Logitech Z-5500 speakers.

I swear I'm going to be deaf by the time I'm 30. :)

Hey everyone!!

Soooo.....remember my ex b/f?? Well, I'm still good friends with his friend's girlfriend. Last night I was talking on the phone with her and I found out a lot of things. Turns out my ex is still drinking, getting high, and (what shocked me) he's using drugs. Meth to be exact! All his friends use it, and have been doing it for awhile now. I was so shocked! I never knew this. But at the same time I was happy because now I know I made the right choice with breaking up with him. I used to feel guilty about it but now I don't. I'm so glad it's over and I'm not having to deal with him.

On a happier note, :) Tomorrow Nick and I are going to Disneyland again. I'm super excited, it should be fun!
