Hey everyone:) Life is great in the small Oregon town. lol. Just had two finals today for my University, calculus and spanish. bluhhh... and one more final to go (the dreaded but interesting chemistry) before I'm off for a month. Alas, if only my college didn't cost a small fortune to attend I might even have fun over the month. However, I'll be working:(
What's new? How is everyone?

Where'd you move? First thing you do is unpack the computer and hook it up?

I moved back to Waterville, so now I'm like 30sec from work. Since I do a split shift 3 days a week, its was a needed move. The new apartment is an old carriage barn, so its open, and very unique. Everyone that has seen it so far has been very jealous.

First thing I unpacked and set up was the bed, because a man has to have a place to sleep. Then came the computer, TV, stereo, and 360.

Congrats Stretch!!!!!! Hope the new place continues to be as fine as it sounds. ^_^ Pictures would be appreciated, given how interesting it sounds. Oh, and btw, I would have set up the net connection first. Sleep is optional.

24 years ago today I started work at my current company. Total time here is just under 22 years, as I took a little break to work at a different company in the 90s.

Well the roommates and I just got done playing Risk, the game of world domination. It was pretty fun, I was looking pretty bad in the beginning, but the Ukraine held strong and they forgot about me. I was able to really upset the person in first by overtaking Asia. I still lost but I loved being able to go out in glory causing mass destruction on someone. :)

I think we'll be playing again tomorrow since we're all done with finals.

I LOVE RISK! It's my favorite board game. I play the same way you do Todd!

I wonder if there is a Apple compatible risk game?

net connection would have been set up first, but Time Warner had to come and hook up my apartment and run cables for it too.

Well, post some photos (or link me if you already have) when you have a chance.
Ha, that reminds me when I first moved. When I moved out of my parents, I owned a custom PC in one of those little shuttle cases, a Lovesac (its a 5' round beanbag sort of chair but filled with foam), and a book shelf. I took my now g/f to Ikea and we bought everything. I asked he what she wanted to make first, she said my futon. She to this day claims she wanted a place to sit. I have my doubts.... :)

Thats pretty good. I started with my current employer in June of 1980. I resigned and was away for about 18 months before they asked me to come back on contract. That was about 18 months ago also. So I been the a total of about 26 years and 2 months.......madness!!!

I have a final this morning at 8AM. It takes me about 45 minutes to commute to campus. It is 4:45AM now, and I got maybe about a total of 2 hours of sleep. Great timing for my insomnia to kick in I'd say.

I'll add to this theme. I have just passed the 26 year mark with my company. If you had told me when I joined that I would still be here 26 years later I would have laughed at you. Funny how life turns out. Heck I have been living in the same house for 19 years now as well.

On paper this sounds REALLY staid and boring! Of course that ignores the half dozen or so times I have nearly changed jobs or nearly moved. I have been very close several times, but something has always taken it off the table. Perhaps it is meant to be.

Hear, hear! I float my resume occasionally, and always figure I'm one boot from being fired. (Truth is I just had my review yesterday, and it looks as if they want me around for awhile.)

Hey MO, I can grok that! I nearly always think that I am one step away from being let go. I have been with my current company so long that I know how it works significantly better than any of the people I report to. I have become like a crusty old staff sergeant in the army. I don't put up with any nonsense from my management chain at this point. I know the word "no" and I know how and when to use it, and how to back it up to make it stick. I only take assignments I can reasonably do, and *I* tell *them* what the schedule will be, vs. having them dictate it to me.

All of this makes me quite unpopular with my current very youthful, very ambitious and very unprincipled manager. However, I know the game ten times better than he does, and despite his best efforts, he can't maneuver me into a position where he acquires the grounds to dismiss me. Meantime, my work speaks for itself, and I remain in high demand.

In the end however, it is a dangerous situation... rather like walking on the edge of a razor. One of these days... :D

Don't misinterpret this. I love to stretch and learn and grow (take on new areas regularly) but not when I am not positioned to be able to succeed.
