Thank you folks!!!!!!!

Yes it's a fractal, generated using XaoS, an app available for the Mac. ^_^ I was in the mood for a change, but wasn't sure what I wanted. I'll confess my mood has been a tad funky lately, in part because I *still* have the effects of a virus I caught after returning from our vacation.

Hope you enjoy it. ^_^

Not only that, it's the Mandelbrot set, correct? That was going to be my next avatar! :Shouting:

:) ;D :)

Yes it's the Mandelbrot set, and the sig image is a zoom of the left hand side of the center axis.

I can remember writting a program back in the 80's in Turbo Pascal 5 to generate these.... When I think of all the hours I used on that and how slow the program was......Ah well that was then... Very pretty all the same

My first fun Mac program was a fractal program. I used 1st Gen Macintoshes in the 80s. XaoS today is actually a rather fast program that zooms fairly deep. (You can set the number of iterations to a million or more to ensure good results on deep zooms.)

My all time favorite fractal program was fractint, a DOS program by The Stone Group. Of all of the programs I used, it could do the deepest zooms. The interface to it was a bit cryptic, but it was powerful and flexible.

I regret I never wrote a fractal program, though I too have spent many hours in fascination over fractals whether on the computer or in books. Wonderful stuff.

I just updated the sig image. I didn't like the first one. I think this one is better.

Yes, the new sig is better. Is XaoS a free program? I think I'll check it out when I get home!

Learning about fractals my first year in college inspired me to take more physics classes, even though they in no way applied to my actual major.

Good evening! I guess I'm now officially into my Mac. I've pre-ordered Leopard. I ordered a RAM upgrade to 2G. I've ordered a hard drive upgrade to 250G. This little machine started life w/ 512M and 60G. It's already been through one wave of upgrades, and will now get another. That's okay. I love my little MacBook.

While you're upgrading your MacBook, I'm thinking about upgrading my iMac, from a 2.1Ghz G5, to a 2.4Ghz C2D.

I know the feeling. I bought this machine thinking that I'd basically leave it "as is" and learn OS X. I did the same thing, upgraded the RAM, the hard drive and now preordered Leopard.

I told myself I was going to wait until they had the early bugs worked out, but I couldn't resist. Color me caught up in the excitement ;) I must have sampled too much of Jobs' kool-aid.

I and still resisting and waiting for the bugs to be worked out. I started with 80 GB HDD and 512 MB of ram and now have 120GB HDD and 2 gigs of ram! I don't think I need a new HDD any time soon, seeing as I have 50 gigs left on my 120 gig. I also use my old 80 gig drive as an external drive for the really important things. I am happy with my current set up and can't wait till leopard.
