I have two programs that run only on Windows. Boot Camp is not for me. Parallels keeps charging $50 to upgrade. I have heard that Mac emulators will do the job with perhaps less expense. Does anyone have experience or recommendations with a Mac emulator?

There are no real "Mac emulators". You might be thinking of WINE or WineBottler both of which can run "some" Windows programs in OS X. (Both are free open source.)

However, the best method is probably to use the free "VirtualBox" from Oracle. Works the same as Parallels or Fusion but not as frill and fancy. Give it a try. Download from here.

WINE, Winebottler and VirtualBox

Thanks for the quick response. I seem to be able to use up a lot of time with new programs. Does anyone have successful experience with WINE, Winebottler or VirtualBox?

You may want to ask a better question. Of course there are folks out there that have had successful experiences with these three programs. And there are probably folks who have had less than successful experiences. How is this info going to help you??

Answer. The best way for you to see if these programs will work for you is…do your own research (go to each of the programs websites). Read up on each app…and then download & install what works best for you.

Just trying to help. :)

Let's try another approach. Tell us what two apps you want to run and we'll figure out what environment can best run them and let you know how to do it..
