Update for Keynote, Pages and Numbers is refused. Here's the background. A couple of months ago I changed my Apple Store password. The other day I tried to get the advertised updates and was refused because I was not using the password under which they were bought. My original password was established when I got an iPod, which was several years after I bought the Mac Mini that had these three applications on it.

There seems to be no way around it. I did an update on iPhoto app and it was handled easily. Why can't they set these three that way? I'm ready to buy a different word processor, but I sure want to get at my spreadsheets. I need that update.

Not pleased with Apple on this one.

Assume you mean you changed your Apple ID Password? Folk often get Admin Password and APple ID Password mixed up.

Go into the App Store and hit Purchases and see if there is any joy.

Harry.... Thanks for a quick reply from down under!!

No the instructions are specific, the ID you use for the store.

The purchases are not tied to the password, they are tied to the account. I've changed passwords several times on the same account and all my purchases are there. I'd suggest trying again, just go ahead and use the password that gets you logged into the store. As Harry said, when you install, you'll be asked for a password to do the installation and that password is your login ON THE MACHINE, not at the store. So it's two passwords...one for the store to download and one for the machine to install.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but they don't deal with the problem.

When I click on update rom the App Store I am requested to put in my Apple ID and Password. I do that. The system tries to give me an update but replies in a new box...
"Update Unavailable with this Apple ID. This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user of the item was refunded or cancelled [OK]"

All three programs came with the computer when I bought it new in July 2010. I did not have an ID for the store until I got a iPad two years ago. So I have no where to go with this.

There are a few other complaints about this computer now that I got Yosemite so I guess I've got to haul it off to the Apple store and see if they will deal with things.

John..... who is still only mildly distressed.

unable to upgrade this app

I just resolved this same problem. I also recently upgraded to Yosemite. Said that I had 3 updates for Keynote, Pages and Numbers. when I clicked on update now I got the Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 4.19.21 PM.png

Through Apple support They Verified that because I had used iWorks '09 DVD to install these apps the APP Store would not recognize that I had purchased the apps. I had to give them the SR# off of the DVD and then they issued a redemption code foe each one of these apps and activated the purchase through the store. Seems to be working as the are downloading now.

Hi JAho

Thanks for a different approach to the problem. That screen shot is exactly what I've been seeing.

My three apps, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, came on the mac mini when I bought it, so I don't have a DVD with serial number. I suppose I could try to get hold of Apple support. I'm not yet ready for that painful experience.

I've been talking to some friends here and to my son. It seems that new OS on a 4 year old computer, even thought it has all the available upgrades, results in a slow-down. (In typing this message the text has stopped and the beach ball has twirled several times.) Such a slow-down might be considered Apple's way and encouraging you to buy a new computer. hmmmmmm.

As a stingy old yankee that bothers me some.

My wife and I share this machine, and I'd really like that she has her own.... so we are going to go shop for a couple of Surface Pro 3 tablets..... Just looking, now, of course.

Good luck with that. I priced one out (and even tried it out) at Staples and by the time I was through adding enough memory, a keyboard, and warranty, I could have purchased a 2014 13" rMBP. Guess which one I would rather have? ;D

John, my fearless prediction is that you will NOT be happy with the Surface Pro, but if you think that's best, go ahead.

As for your paranoia about Apple forcing new hardware by upgrading the OS, the facts are that the new OS runs better on my almost-four year old MBP than Mavericks did, and I'm planning on putting it on the 2008 iMac soon. So Apple is not "encouraging you to buy a new computer."

Did you try calling Apple about this? Or going into a store to ask them about it? If you had these products on the Mini when you bought it, as you said, and if you bought it new, as you said, then the software should be on a disc that came with it. Just call Apple and tell them you have that disk and give them the information, like JAho says. If' you've not got the disk, then call Apple and tell them that, too. It's not painful, Apple is quite helpful.

Hi chscag and MacInWin,

Thanks for good advice. I dug around in my storage and came across a box label "I Work" It appears I do have a disk. Should I assume the number is would have to give is in very tiny print, on the working side of the disc, around the hub? Looks like D63842 3 2Z693-6986-A.

There is a different number on the label surface.... 2691-6551-A it is Version 9.0.3.

I think we will probably look at Surface any way and also look again at MacBooks. I will see if I can talk with Apple Service Help.

Thanks much for this discussion.

Well, maybe two weeks ago I did contact an apple tech by phone and had two sessions during which this issue about upgrading the contents of iWork was resolved. In the process the techs gave me a new download of OS X 10.10. Now the computer will occasionally blank the screen and restart. Sometimes I am using the machine and sometimes it does this entirely on its own.

I would sure like to take the machine to an apple tech place, leave it and have them straighten out the problems. (sketchy display of typed letters, refusal to download a new Norton Security program) I understand that the local Apple Stores will not deal with software issues? Who do you folks go to?

I am getting to the end of my tether......

refusal to download a new Norton Security program
Ah, ha! The source of the problems has appeared at last! Get rid of all things Norton and I predict the bulk of your problems will go away. There is no need for any Antivirus software on OS X and there is no need for any "cleaner" or "Helper" applications, either. The only utility you might want to use is Onyx, which is free and works well. It's also the only one recommended here. Norton is definitely NOT recommended, in any way, shape or form.

Oh John! Uninstall nortons immediately by going to the Symantec web site and downloading the uninstaller. In Classic OS 9 and earlier days Peter Norton made fabulous Mac utilities, but since selling out to Symantec and their famed AV software, things are very black.

Simply do not drag to trash. Not using other 'dreaded' software such as MacKeeper etc I trust?
