Mac Air - No Sound...Help Plz

Got a 2009 Mac Air. Its like mutes constantly on. No sound coming out. I've tried using hot keys. I'm a noob to the Mac world but really good with Windows based computers. Do Macs have drivers? What should my next move be? Thanks

Check your headphone input jack. It may be stuck in "headphones" mode. Use a pair of headphones to see if sound is working that way. Let us know.

Ill be getting the laptop Monday. I'm pretty sure we've tried using headphones with no luck. We used the computer to record on so we were constantly plugging in/out USB mics and headphones, then randomly the sound stopped working. I think its gonna be some kind of hardware problem. I don't need any of the programs or files on it now, so I'm thinking I will do a factory reset/reformat it . Is there any scenario where that would work?

Ok the head phones didnt work... When I press volume up or down it shows the "prohibited" sign. Did something come apart internally?

The small switch inside the phone jack receptacle is stuck in digital mode. Try plugging and unplugging a phone jack in and out. That may reset it. Otherwise it will require repair by Apple.

There is no phone jack plug-in or Ethernet plug-in... Only plug-ins I saw was (2) USB slots and a head phone input.

The head phone input is the input - output jack.
