Lost Images

While I was messing around with my desktop background, I noticed there were some old images I did not have in my iPhoto library, so I wanted to show them in Finder so I could transfer them to my iPhoto library, but there seems to be no trace of the images other than in the Desktop and Screensaver in the System Preferences. Help! ?
