Well most Technicians for Apple UK tel me otherwise.

Why not try it and test it yourself, then you can correct them and let them know how smart and clever you are, and maybe let them know that they need to smarten up and get up-to-date. :Smirk:

Or would doing so just be too cocky for them...??? :wink :giggle

The technicians are half right at best.

When Time Machine was first introduced, OS X 10.5 I think, it was not possible to boot from a Time Machine Backup. Starting sometime around OS X 10.7 I think it became possible to book from a Time Machine backup.

[h=2]Full system restore[/h]Time Machine allows enables the full recovering of a system. For example, a user can boot a new Mac with the old Mac's Time Machine backup connected, press the [command] and [R] keys simultaneously, and choose Restore from a Time Machine Backup. In addition to restoring user settings, files, and email, the Time Machine backup can also assist in recovering applications, assuming Time Machine was previously set to back up the entire machine.
See here

Here's one example from Apple. See the section on starting from recovery

I just booted my MBP from the TM backup and as I said, it booted into recovery from where I could restore a bad drive if I needed to do so. I guess I'll have to make sure my Mac doesn't talk to those Apple UK techs to find out it's not supposed to do that!

How long ago has that been? Time Machine has been bootable for quite some time. You can try it for yourself with your latest Time Machine backup.
