All I can say is : gollum. The most unbelievable cgi I've ever seen. Blows any of the Star Wars effects away...

As far as the movie is concerned : I've only seen it once, so I really can't say for sure, but the story is VERY deep in this second installment. It is very easy to get lost with all those different names and clans and stuff. But overall it was great. I will go see it again, to make sure all has sunken in, but I've seen Fellowship at least 20 times, and new stuff comes up almost everytime I watch it.

This Jackson guy is a superb director. Pretty much cam out of nowhere too. I hope he comtinues to make these quality types of movies in the future... But of course, there is still 3 more hours left in the tale of : The Lord of the Rings...

Now that you saw the movies, you should read the books. :p
Didn't want to read the books, because I wanted to see the movies :)

When you read the Hobbit, you will get the history of exactly how Sam got the ring. And there is more details that the movie couldn't possibly cover.

Besides, reading the books is a great way to understand the movie better. :p

You mean Bilbo, right?

Yes, she meant Bilbo. Then Bilbo passed to Frodo, and then Sam had it for a short while. Then Frodo got it back from Sam.

I read the books a long time ago. I enjoyed the first movie, planning to see the second this weekend. I think the director did a great job go far.

Well, so far, Sam hasn't had possesion of the ring yet. But I can see that happening probably in the next movie. Or book rather :)

Yes Jackson has done a very good job - he somehow managed to coordinate the direction of all three movies at once, through a setup of several monitors and walkie-talkies, switching between movies and scenes every few minutes.

saw it a second time last night. its still great. it was alot easier to follow too. i kept getting mixed up with the hobbits (frodo/sam & pippin/merry) the first time. Treebeard and the Ents discussion is still a funny part to me.

Who here read the book(s) first? I read the second one just before I went to see the movie, and was quite disappointed at the amount of material they left out... oh well maybe in the 3rd movie :)

I read the four books a long time ago. The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers and the Return of the King.

With all the detail in the books, if Jackson would translate the books exactly the movies would be more than 9 hours, that it is now.

Well, the first movie was actually cut, and the DVD version is a half an hour longer. And I have read that there was also a lot cut out of the second. Which will most likely end up in an "extended" version of the second as well. They cut the movies to keep the interest. Most people can't sit for 90 minutes at a time, never mind 180 :)

The first was 178 minutes and the extened version is 208 minutes. I know what you mean abount sitting time. The averge Bond movie is about 2 hours 15 minutes, most sit there it. If the story is told in just the right way, people will stay till the end. I have not seen the second part yet. I may not see it until shows up on DVD. I will wait for the extended version this time. Titanic was another long one.

I believe it was difficult to translate the Lord of the Rings to the big screen. I have read some where that Jackson is a Lord of the Rings fan and he tried to keep the movies close to the story in the books as possible.

I have also read that The Return of the King (third movie) will be the best of the three. We shall see at the end of the year.

Ya know, the first movie, I nearly had to drag my friends to come with me. Then when it got to the end they were all like "what its over?" (last year)

then they dragged me out of my house durning my vacation to watch the 2nd one. (this year)
