I found the same one (I'm assuming from a different seller)...for about $14 less.

Strange difference in pricing! Lol
You can say that again - on the amazon.ca site, that one is listed at over $200.- cdn

Here are a couple:

Good searching folks, but some interesting shipping cost policies at the one site... 😇

4-PORT USB-C HUB
$39.99

Shipping & Returns
Free USA shipping on orders over $40 with a 30-day return policy.

1 (one) *&$%f'n penny off the free shipping minimum... That's a bit thin policy... 😒

At least the units have a decent speed reading but no charging capabilities according to the specs yet they sell a separate charging usb-c cable for $20 ($19.00). Hmmm...

Companies need to draw the line somewhere...in this case I guess they decided on $40 as the minimum order for free shipping.:)

If all the products this company sells is looked at carefully...there are quite few that cost much less than $40...and quite a few that cost more than $40. In this case it's only coincidental that the item price ($39.99) happens to be very close to the $40 minimum.

In any case...I went to the website...added this item to my cart...and entered my shipping information.

Turns out there must be some flexibility in the free shipping policy. At $39.99...it seems to qualify for Free shipping::)

It could be that the sales tax would carry $39.99 over the threshold for the "purchase."

It's a US company, they are not going toffer free shipping to Canada on a $40.- item.

But to Patrick's point, Canadian companies offering "free shipping" above a certain invoice value are very sticky and usually make no allowance if the total invoice is just short of the threshold.
Staples Canada comes to mind, but they always have penny items people can add to the order to get over the limit.

Lots of US companies that I deal with offer free shipping on items less than $40.

But it does seem to be about the magic number for a lot of others. Then there are others who won't buy unless they get some sort of Free shipping...

Now if they would make one with ON / OFF switches for the ports. Yes I can find USB A Gen 1 and Gen 2 but want USB C and or Thunderbolt.

Try contacting We make parts for IT & A/V professionals that connect, convert, extend, split & switch and see if they have anything they could possibly adapt, they are a very adaptable and progressive company, maybe they may make up a custom unit for you/?? 😇

I wouldn't expect such a product to be cheap.

EDIT:
Maybe there are separate squishable adopters available that could be used such as this but with the proper connectors:
ANDUL USB Switch Extension Cable, Upgraded USB Extension Cord with On/Off Power Switch
Amazon.ca

ANDTOBO also seems to make similar switchef cords and hubs etc.

Or just pull out the connector to disconnect the devive you want to disanle??? 😇

What I think would be helpful, is a multi USB-A in (Female) to a single USB-C (Male) as all my accessories are the old USB-A .

Welcome to the forum.

There are a lot of those hubs around. In fact, most of them are just that. You can find them on Amazon, or B&H Photo, BestBuy, just about any place that sells computers and peripherals.

Oh, thank you MacInWin.
Apple charged me £19 for just a single conversion cable (after I had just bought a new 16" MBP M1 @ £2,399.00) .......

Me, too. But then I plugged in a 7port USB3 hub and attached the drives I have that are USB3. But I am going to migrate over time to TB4 drives for the speed performance, so an all-TB4 hub/dock will sooner or later be needed. I can wait a while to see if prices come down from the stratosphere a bit.

A good USBc/TB4 to USB3 hub should perform better than my current solution, but I don't want to get that, either, as I'll move away from that. It's a problem of being on the bleeding edge of technology...

USB a in USB a out and an A to C adaptor would do the trick. That's what I have on one of my hubs.

But I am going to go for one mentioned earlier by KRS in reply 4 and it's not even sterling beer tokens for €€€€€€s which makes a change!

A welcome from me too John. Us John's have got to stick together init!

I was thinking that one of these might be of interest to you: 😇

But some USB4 questions if I may:
- with all the various devices plugged into such a hub as listed above, do any of them slow down any of the other devices or do they all work at their full listed speed when all connected and in use???
I would think there must be a bit of a bottleneck somewhere that might reduce the rated speed...

- if the USB4 standard supports 100 w, what USB devices actually use 100 w on their usb port??? Or am I misunderstanding something???

Just curious... But I haven't been able to find the answers on the 'net.

Some answers, as best I know. There will be throttling if all of the ports are driving at full speed. The interface to the Mac is 40Gbps, so if you plug in, and use, three 40Gbps devices, they will have to share the pipe to the Mac. That is theoretical, of course, as it is a bit unrealistic to be in that mode. What is more likely is that the heaviest mode would be copying from one drive attached to the hub to another drive attached to the same hub. You can read more at Wikipedia: Thunderbolt (interface) - Wikipedia

As for the power, the Mac is powered through the USBc port (or can be--mine also has MagSafe3). The 100w is the OUTPUT of the hub. It comes with its own power supply, can be used to power the MBP to which it is attached, if needed.

KRS, that looks great, dunno about the price for Jake though. I bit rich for me as well but I'm sure once the USB4 issue gets sorted they will be cheaper. For now most of my peripherals are USB-A so the common USB-C to USB-A dock will be fine for a while at least.
