Locking IPAD

24" IMAC with an M1 chip &16 GB Memory
I have a 7th generation IPAD that after downloading the latest upgrade continues to lock up and not let me use until I either shut down or change to another site. It will not load if I am more than 20 feet from the router. The battery also will not hold a charge for more than about 6 hours. Is it time look at upgrading to a newer generation?

What have you tried yourself so far?

For example a forced shutdown and reboot? I know you mentioned "shutdown", but there is a difference between a standard and forced shutdown.

Force restart iPad

If iPad isn’t responding, try forcing it to restart.
