Lion won't eat the Leopard?

I have OSx 10.5.8 running on my 24"IMac. I tried to upgrade to IOS 5 but get message that my software is already up to date. So evidently I won't be able to upgrade to Lion so that everything (IPad, IPhone etc.) will work together! Any ideas as to whether or not that is true? Any work around ? Thanks Joe

What are you talking about, OSX Lion 10.7 or IOS5? One is a Computer OS and the other a Tablet/Phone OS.

I think he means he can't update to IOS 5 when he syncs his iPhone because he's running 10.5 on his iMac.

If that's the case, you can buy Snow Leopard directly from the apple online store for $29.

Yes...your software is up to date in terms of Mac OS 10.5 "Leopard"...since Leopard version 10.5.8 is last 10.5 version you can upgrade to (for free). Beyond OS 10.5.8 you need to PURCHASE the next version (as "MacDude121" mentioned)...which is OS 10.6 Snow Leopard...and then you can upgrade to OS 10.7 "Lion" if you wish to (you have to purchase Lion as well).

Thanks to all who replied! The information was most helpful. Are there any notable improvements to be had by the upgrades, besides being able to utilize IOS5 ?
I am on my second hard drive and second video card on this 24" Mac, and it is starting to boot up very slowly again. May not be the time to put more $$$ into this one , alth I can't justify buying a new Mac right now. Thanks again for the help. Joec

I'd stay where you are and forget about iOS 5 until you can get a newer Mac (or fix whatever is actually wrong with your present Mac).
