legit info on PTP and bit torrent

I know that P2P's and bit torrents have many "darksides", but what if any legit reasons would I need one? I'm really on a fact finding mission, and want to know what they are all about. I've used WinMx in the past, but not for years. Please let me know how these things help legit computer users, and also is there any need for one.

I use bittorrent for downloading live music from taper friendly bands (Bands that give fans permission to record concerts, and post them online for people to download) from bt.etree.org

Is there a site that lists these bands, or do you know the bands personally? I don't wanna get myself in trouble.

Your best bet is to look at the bands website and see if they have a Taping or Trading Policy on there

I wouldn't take that above link as 100% definitive saying the bands allow it but its a good starting point
