Keyboard shortcut for drop down menu for "file"?

Mac OS X v. 10.6.5
Is there a keyboard shortcut for the drop down menus under "file, edit, view" etc. On the PC it's alt/f for file, etc. I cannot find this under the shortcuts listed at the beginning of this forum.

It doesn't work quite the same way on the Mac. Click on File and take a look at the drop down list. The available keyboard shortcuts are shown on the right. That "cloverleaf" symbol stands for the Command key, in case you don't have an Apple keyboard.

So, you go directly to the menu item with the listed shortcut. You don't need to invoke the File menu or other "main menu items" first.
