I am trying to move all my files from my old macbook to my new one. However, the old mac does not boot properly and I receive a Kernel Panic message before the login screen pops up. I've already tried safe mode and fsck and no results. I have also tried booting from the OS disk but this does not work (goes straight to error screen).

Is there any way to transfer files from one mac to another by using single-user mode or some other method?

Try removing the hard drive from your old MacBook and place it in a USB carrier. Then attach it to the new Mac and see if you can transfer the data that way. It's possible the hard drive in your old MacBook may be defective and the cause of the Kernel Panics. If it is, there's not much you can about it.
