Congratulations, that's a nice system.I just bought a used PPC G5 2.5 ghz, 4g RAM. Keyword is PPC.

That machine is far from being a "dinosaur" and there was nothing dumb about the purchase you made.yeah but I got this dinosaur of a machine (PPC)... can't even get snow leopard. Apple treating us PPCers like step children. For real, how dumb was this!? Gosh!
I remember hearing the same sentiments when they dropped floppy drives from machines, when they changed over to OS X from the previous line of System software, when they dropped support for Classic...etc.
There has to be a cutoff point somewhere.
No, they haven't manufactured or sold a PPC machine since 2006... right within your own "reasonable 3 years" guideline. The cutoff point should be a reasonable 3 years or so after the last PPC sale. I believe they were still selling PPC, what? like a year ago... Just seems too quick.

Yep, the last PPC Mac was released in August 2006, it was the PowerMac G5. Three years this August. Snow Leopard is being released in September and will drop PPC support. That's three years and one month since the last new PPC Mac was sold.
Now, if you paid too much, need to run Windows, or spend most of your time doing 3D animation, high-end gaming, or video editing, then you made a dumb decision.
My wife runs the latest edition of Final Cut Pro (full edition) plus after effects and Adobe CS4 on her 1.6ghz, 2G ram, dual Core G5 from '04 and everything works fine. So even then I don't think it would be a dumb decision.
Then why start a thread asking if you made a dumb decision purchasing a used Dual 2.5 G5 then? You seem to already know it's not a bad decision.
the bad decision was regarding the PPC
A PowerMac G5 is a Power PC. There are no G5 Intel's.
