iTunes 10.5 update issue

I needed to set up a new 4S for a client who has an iMac running OSX 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.2.

When the phone is plugged into the computer it says it cannot sync without iTunes 10.5. Software Upgrade shows all software up to date. I went to the Apple website, manually downloaded iTunes 10.5 and installed. When i went to run iTunes after the upgrade install, version was still 10.2. I read some where to make a new admin account and install the upgrade from there, but I got the same result.

What am I not doing or what am I doing wrong.
