Is There Something Wrong with Ex-WD My Passport

I'm trying to delete some files off of my external hard drive and while I threw some in the trash bin. I'm trying to secure empty trash and so far the file count is almost 400,000. I deleted some old backups and some other items. I'm doing this because I have a 500Gb HD but I only have 159 gb left. I don't really have much on the drive. Am I deleting these files properly

Mate have a read of THIS, as you might get a better explanation than i can gabble out lol

But as it is you are doing it ok and it will take quite a while to do if yo use Secure Empty. The article explains why

thanks tattooed, it's worrying me because it was well over 500K before I stopped it...i just need to find a way to empty the trash from my harddrive

Why dont you boot up from your HD then Empty trash ??

OH unless you used TM

I did use TM but I did a HD erase using disk utility and i'm just putting all of my music and movies back on it. I'll do another backup as soon as this is done

"Secure" empty trash is COMPLETELY unnecessary for this and adds HOURS to the process. Just empty the trash in the normal way. Life's short.
