Is there a way to select # of files to fit on DVD

I often back-up large numbers of files onto DVD's (as well as storing on external hard drives). Many times, the folder contain more than the 4.7 GB which fit on a DVD. I find myself dragging the files to a burn folder and then guessing by remiving files and checking the folder size until I reach a limit that is small enough to burn.

Obviously, this is quite tedious, and since my mac seems to be able to do most things very easily and intuitively, I thought there may be a way to go into a folder with numerous files and automatically select say 4.5 GB worth. Anyone know if this is possible, or if there is at least a better way of trying to do what I'm doing??

you can move the files you want into a seperate foler onto your desktop. If you right click that folder and go to "Get Info" you will find how big that folder is (and other information). as shown below:

if you find you are exceeding a DVD space by 50 mb, you can open your folder (that you created on your desktop), then switch to collumn view and see a description for each file (including the size of the file). as shown below:

You could try a BackUp Application, you'll find a lto of those around. Also you might find Disco interesting, it's an App that calculates the number of discs you need to burn certain files, then burns them for you. www.discoapp.com

toast does this, but it costs a little money of course!

itll only let you burn so much to a dvd. one of the better features i prefer over the apple burn folder method
