IPTV works on my MBA but when viewed on TV via HDMI cable there is no audio on the TV.
This is no doubt due to connecting HDMI thru Thunderbolt socket with the Apple adaptor.

Is there a USB-HDMI adaptor available and if so will it carry the audio and video signals?

Texas, where else?

The mini displayport to HDMI adapter will carry the audio just fine.

Have you tried opening System Preferences - Sound and selecting the TV as the output?
Some TVs require this extra step, some don't. Not sure why.

edit:
You'll need the TV connected and turned on...
