Ok we'll I just got my Ipod touch 2 days ago. Some general information...bought it through Walmart. "says" it came with updates....I do not want to jailbreak my Itouch.

My Ipod touch says it come withs the new upgrades. I plug in my ipod touch to my laptop and itunes says "a new version of Ipod software is availabe, version 2.0.1. I click on it and it goes under the Itunes store icon and goes to downloads. I don’t know if I am buying it or not because I shouldn’t have to but I have read online that it cost 9.95 so I cancel the download every time incase it charged my credit card. I have also downloaded Ibeer. I want to put it on my ipod touch but I don’t know how. People say I need to upgrade my Itouch but once again I don’t know if it is charging my credit card or not. I have also heard you need to jailbreak your itouch to get ibeer but i dont think so because i bought it off itunes and I dont think they would sell something that they didn't want you to use (which it's apparent that they don't seeings that it voids your warranty and they say not to) ......

ANY HELP???!!!

If your touch can receive apps then there should be an application tab in iTunes when you plug it in. Also, there would be an App store icon on the touch as well. If not, then you would need to install the iPhone2.0 software upgrade for iPod touch which does cost $9.95. They might be referring to the January software updates which added several apps for $20.

I wasn't aware of touches being sold with that upgrade installed already, but perhaps so.

your iPod touch most likely already has the 2.0 software...

However, there was an update released a couple days ago (software version 2.0.1) that fixed a couple issues from 2.0. I believe you do not have to pay for this update...

So, baced on what you're saying, I would go ahead and download and install the update. Plus, apple can't charge you without first disclosing it...

*a clear way to determin if you have 2.0 is to go to Preferences-->General-->About on your iPod touch and see if software version is 2.0...

However, I would wait for another opinion before continuing...

The 2.0.1 update is free. Just an update to the 2.0 version the OP is already using.
