Hi

I recently acquired a macbookpro OS X 10.6.8 second-hand. It did not come with iphoto and I am trying to download it unsuccessfully.

Please will someone assist me in finding software that is compatible. At the app store iphoto 11 won't download because it will only run on 10.7.5 software which I do not have.

Please advise.

Picasa - free

Get the original discs from whomever you purchased the MBP from so that you can install it.

Purchase an older version of iLife 09 or 11 that still works with 10.6.8.
Ex. Amazon

Upgrade the MBP to 10.8 if it is capable and then you can get the current version of iPhoto.

Am sure there are other picture viewing apps out there also.

iPhoto in mid 2010 macbook pro

Hi Artist123, Like you, I recently acquired a MacBook Pro (mid 2010) 10.6.4. How did you resolve your iPhoto issue? I'm also having a problem with simple photo editing software. I have the original disks that came with the machine, but can't get iPhoto to work. Was iPhoto not around in mid-2010? I find that hard to believe. How did you solve your problem? Thanks! -dm

dm, you do realise you replied to a post nearly 2 years old. The OP made the one post and none since. The post below makes sense as is from a current active member.

iPhoto has been around a very long time, but has now been dropped by Apple in favour of the new Photos app. This requires Yosemite 10.10.3 and is installed with it. You could bite the bullet and consider upgrading to Yosemite, but first check for compatibility with your apps and any external hardware, also checking you have sufficient RAM installed. If you do upgrade, first repair disk permissions and and run disk repair from Disk Utility, then backup either by cloning your hard drive or using Time Machine.

If you want to stick with Snow Leopard, note it's no longer supported by Apple. How does iPhoto not work, what symptoms? Your mention your MBP was running 10.6.4, have you run software update to take it to 10.6.8 and installed other updates?

Hi Steve. Thanks for your reply. Yes, I knew the post was old, but I'm brand new to forums and don't know how they work. The macbook pro (mid 2010) is actually one I bought on ebay for my wife. We don't particularly want to jump through the hoops of upgrading to Mavericks, but I did upgrade to 10.6.8 and that's when my iPhoto issue began (or at least, that's when I first noticed it). I thought it had something to do with the OS upgrade, so I re-installed the original 10.6.4 from the original disks. The error message I get says "iPhoto cannot be opened because of a problem." continues... "Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Mac OS. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS." End error message. I'm beginning to think iPhoto is not included in the software from mid 2010, but you stated iPhoto has been around for a long time. My wife is simply looking for a basic photo editing app. Nothing drastic. Cropping, etc.
